DEMI MICHELLE FLETCHER ,
AND THEN I THINK OF YOU AND IT'S ALL RIGHT .

What was it about school that sucked the life right out of you? Demi had arrived this morning in the halls of learning, well rested and happy. It didn't matter that she was about to spend the rest of the day sitting in various classrooms, listening to teachers drone on about subjects that would mean little to her in the future. She was here to see her friends and her friends would make everything seem so much better. Math was much more tolerable when you had your best friend sitting beside you, passing notes between each other while the teacher attempted to explain the quadratic equation to you. The math was useless, but the time in class was always entertaining. The problem came when you had to sit through a class that your best friend wasn't in and there wasn't anything to distract you from the lesson, because you didn't dare take out your cell phone and text because you're English teacher was notorious for confiscating the teenage life line. It was those times that sucked the life right out of you, and Demi was suffering the after math of one of those lessons as she entered the student lounge for her free fourth period.
From the doorway, Demi surveyed the student population of the lounge. It was basically empty, and the few students that were milling around were upper classmen. Granted, she knew who they were and had talked to them a few times because of her sister, but that didn't mean she wanted to spend her free period talking to a bunch of her sister's friends. Sighing, Demi hiked her off white canvas bag - which had a cute little caricature of the earth with the words 'Word to Your Mother' printed on it - up on her shoulder and entered further into the room. Giving the seniors gathered together a nod, Demi wandered down to the vending machines. She surveyed her options with distaste - flavoured milk, flavoured water, pop or energy drinks. None of them seemed very good when all she wanted was an iced coffee. Why was it that being a sophomore sucked so much? The fifteen year old could not wait until she turned sixteen and she could hop in her car and drive off to spoil herself with fast food and coffee-based drinks in her free periods. Until then she was stuck with chocolate milk and stale snacks.
Resigned, Demi inserted a couple of bucks into the vending machine and bought a chocolate milk and a cookies & cream chocolate bar. As much as she was craving iced coffee and McDonald's french fries, this would have to do until after school when she'd beg her sister to make a couple of stops on the way home from school. Scuffing her blue & white Etnies against the ground, Demi turned on her heel and moved to one of the couches, where she plopped down. After discreetly kicked off her shoes and tucked her legs underneath her. The good thing about the student lounge being empty - she could let herself get comfortable. The bad thing? She didn't have any socializing to distract her, which meant she would have to actually do some of her school work. The girl opened her milk, took a sip and then pulled her French book out of her bag. She had a test next period, so she might as well study for it.
That mentality lasted about five minutes. Reviewing French verbs just wasn't something she wanted to spend her free period doing. Another over-dramatic sigh and Demi slammed her French book closed and pushed it away from her. Instead, she focused her mind on eating & drinking her food and trying to remember who had a free period this period, so she could text them and try and have some semblance of a social life this period. Because Demi absolutely hated being alone at school. It made everything about the whole learning experience suck more.
